History:
The Nebraska Policy Institute was established in 2000 by a statewide group of Nebraskans who saw the need for a research organization that would look at policy issues from a competitive enterprise perspective, develop alternative solutions and educate the public about issues and alternatives.
NPI traces its beginnings to 1997, when Bryce P. Neidig of Madison, Neb., then-president of Nebraska Farm Bureau, invited a diverse group of Nebraskans prominent in many fields to discuss whether a new research organization could play an important role in the future well-being of the state. This core group agreed that the competitive enterprise perspective was missing from discussion of many public policy issues with impacts on agriculture and rural Nebraska.
The core group moved forward with development and incorporation of the Nebraska Policy Institute in 1999. NPI received federal tax-exempt status in 2000.
